Each year, Andrew Bulloch sponsors a promising local Muskoka athlete and their quest to be the best in their sport. Knowing the hard work and dedication that is required to succeed in sports, sponsorship is extremely important in helping an athlete get the equipment and support they require so they can focus on what they do best. Andrew is proud of all those he has supported, including Huntsvilles’ Dara Howell, who in 2014, traveled to Sochi for the Olympics and brought home an Olympic gold in the Women’s Freestyle skiing program! All of Huntsville cheered her on, and she was sure to thank all those who helped support her throughout the years.
Continuing in his support of local athletes, Andrew is proudly sponsoring Jeff Allen, of Phil Makela’s Huntsville Judo Club, who competes in Judo. Jeff is currently training to represent Canada at the Judo World Masters Championship in Amsterdam in September, and recently won the gold medal in a dominating final performance at the Canadian National Championships for Judo in Saint-Jean-Sur-Richelieu.
“When I walked out there, I wasn’t going to be second, I was taking gold. I didn’t go all that way to not come back with a win.” Jeff said of the gold win in Saint-Jean-Sur-Richelieu. It’s this sort of drive and determination that it takes to succeed, and why Andrew chose Jeff for sponsorship.
In the last two years alone, Jeff has excelled in competitions including:
Canadian National Championship – Gold National Champion Tora Invitational – silver in senior division – bronze in masters division Peel Championship – gold in masters division – bronze in senior Ontario International Open – silver in masters division North York Championship – gold in master division – silver in seniors division
Asahi Championship – gold in senior division Guelph championship – bronze in senior division Budokan shiai – gold in senior division North York Championship – gold in senior division Quebec International Open – 5th in senior division Tora Invitational – silver in senior division Huntsville Championship – gold in open division Sho Jin shiai – gold in open division – bronze in team fight
“The success of local judo practitioners at the national level is reflective of the high quality of judo practiced in Huntsville.” Jeff has said in support of his town, and of those who support him. “We’ve got a really good club here. We’ve got a lot of skilled people who compete at club-level tournaments.”
Andrew has also proudly sponsored Jason Knox, a rising star of the local minor bantam lacrosse team! He is now on the Team Ontario squad, which will be seeking the Canadian bantam box lacrosse championship during the August 4 to 9th week when it is hosted in New Westminister and Coquitlam, British Columbia. Jason, now 13 years old, will be making his first appearance at the tournament, and has big hopes for the competition there. A dual star athlete, he has also competed in triple-A hockey in the past four years – though lacrosse is his first love! We wish him and Team Ontario all the best!
Andrew continues to support local athletes like Jeff and Jason on there quest to be the best, and encourages all aspiring athletes to follow their dreams – hard work and perseverance does pay off! Just ask Dara…
